The second bout of severe weather per week in Wisconsin includes a tornado in Tomah.

The tornado was reported near Tomah, Wisconsin, just after 4 p.m. local time, and appeared to have traveled northeast through Monroe County for about 15 miles, according to the county sheriff’s office.

For the second time this week, severe storms with damaging winds moved through the Madison area on Wednesday, and hurricane activity was confirmed in two West-Central Wisconsin communities.

The La Crosse Tribune reported that a tornado observed near Toma shortly after 4 p.m. was “large and extremely dangerous,” and debris was seen “high” on radar.

One was also spotted near Mauston and described as “wrapped in rain,” making it difficult to see.

Interstate 90 has been closed for more than three hours due to trailers exploding on its sides, but no deaths or serious injuries have been reported.

“The tornado destroyed many trees, power lines and barns,” the county sheriff’s office wrote in a Facebook post.

“There are major blackouts and damage to a number of homes as well.”

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Wednesday night that the tornado traveled northeast from Interstate 131 and Highway A for about 15 miles before leaving Monroe County north of Shenington.

The sheriff’s office said the hurricane brought down many trees, power lines and barns, and the hurricane closed Interstate 90 for more than three hours.

Authorities reported widespread power outages and damage to some homes, but no injuries or deaths.

Sarah Marquardt, a National Weather Service meteorologist with Sullivan’s office, said winds in the area have reached between 60 and 80 miles per hour.
