Tense moments were reported Wednesday afternoon at the Willis Tower in the Loop when someone reported an active shooting on the 50th floor of the iconic skyscraper, police said.

Chicago Police spokesman Tom Ahern confirmed that the “active shooter” call on 233 S. Wacker Drive was not bona fide.

As of 3:15 p.m., some workers on the 50th floor were allowed to return to their offices after police searched the floors, police said.

Police said others were on different floors taking shelter.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said ambulances did not respond.

An email circulated by the building’s management stated that officers may remain at the scene but that “the Willis Tower remains safe.”
