West Pullman shooting
CHICAGO – The gardener killed in a West Pullman shooting that also killed a 26-year-old rapper has been identified on Saturday afternoon.
West Pullman shooting: 3 shot, 2 killed in incident, Chicago police said
The Cook County medical examiner’s office said Larry Burnell, 64, died at Crest Hospital.
Larry Burnell, 64, died at Christ Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Dinner website.
The grief for the mother of Brandon Slater, who was also shot dead in broad daylight, is unimaginable.
Diane Archer tries to realize that only about 5 months after one son is buried due to gun violence, she must now bury one another.
“We were simply cooking Mother’s Day dinner like I do at all times,” said Archer, the mother of the injured young man.
“He was an aspiring rapper. Everyone knew him as ‘Benji.’ He was trying to do good. He had a son.”
Slater was shot and killed as he and a good friend walked out of the West Pullman’s home within an 11,600 block of South Lowe Avenue around 2:45 p.m. Saturday.
It’s a house that was in the midst of preparations for a big Mother’s Day Sunday celebration. These preparations included hiring Purnell to re-mow the lawn.
“He was cutting down the yard. Reverend Donovan Value, one of the advocates for the victims, said on Saturday that they were known by his name to cross the yard because of tomorrow’s big celebration.
Purnell, in line with investigators at the scene, appears to have been out again after hearing the initial ball of fire.
He was shot in the chest and later died in Christ Hospital.
“I’m not interested in this bullshit,” said Archer. “One thing must be completed.”
The motive behind the captivity has not been determined.
Initial reviews from the police seemed to indicate that the car ran about as much as the drive home.
Someone got out of the car and opened the stove directly in Slater.
According to police, the 27-year-old companion was shot in the leg by a single bullet. He is now recovering at Christ Hospital.
No arrests were made as of Sunday morning.
