NEW YORK – The Tornado Watch went into effect across much of southern New Jersey on Friday, with severe weather likely ahead of a hot weekend.

The watch is released to 7 p.m. in Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Salem, Somerset, Sussex, Warren counties.

A heat warning is also in effect for much of the Tri-State area, with record temperatures likely on Saturday and Sunday.

It would be in the mid-90s and it would feel hotter, especially on Long Island.

Officials are also reminding anyone who may head to the beaches to rest that lifeguards have not yet been deployed for this season.
New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are advising residents to take precautions.

Know the warning signs of heat illness.

Call 911 immediately if you or someone you know:

Hot dry skin.
– breathing difficulties.
Rapid heartbeat.
Confusion, disorientation or dizziness.
– Vomiting and nausea.

If you or someone you know feels weak or faint, go somewhere cool and drink water.
If there is no improvement, call a doctor or 911.
