AMBER Alert issued for missing teen out of Northeast Texas

LEWS COUNTY, VA – The Upshur County deputy was shot in the leg in The shooting accident on I-79 near Weston, late Thursday morning.

At some point all traffic lanes on both sides of the highway were closed.

A witness who spoke with 12 News said he saw the shooter being shot by law enforcement, then fall. 12 News reporter Harley Benda reports that a medical examiner is at the scene.

Officials confirmed the death of the suspect in the accident, but did not confirm what happened.

Benda also reported that he saw a helicopter flying at the scene.

As of noon, the northbound lanes were closed “indefinitely,” but one of the southbound lanes of I-79 reopened.

Traffic heading north has been diverted to US Route 19 according to West Virginia State Police.

The entire incident took place in Lewis County, despite the Upshur County deputy being shot, officials say.

12 news crews reported blocking all ramps at Exit 99.

Law enforcement was able to use the medium to keep drivers stuck on I-79 North on I-79 South and off the highway.
