Tennessee Secretary of State Arrested
Friday night (June 17) Tennessee Secretary of State Arrested on DUI Charge, amazed me, Trey Hargit for allegedly drunk driving after leaving a state music festival.
Hargate’s office issued a statement regarding the arrest Saturday.
“Friday night after leaving the Bonaro Music Festival, I was stopped by the Tullahoma Police Department and subsequently arrested for a DUI,” Hargate said in the statement.
“Driving under influence is dangerous, and I am sorry for the circumstances that led to my arrest. I respect law enforcement and will trust the legal process as we move forward.”
WKRN-TV reported that Harjit is scheduled to appear in court on July 14.
Hargate served for ten years in the General Assembly before overseeing the Tennessee Regulatory Authority.
He was elected by the General Assembly to the position of Secretary of State in 2009 and re-elected in 2013, 2017, and 2021, according to the State Department’s website.
Hargit is the chief executive of the State Department and oversees more than 300 employees.
