Methuen fire, Firefighters Battle ‘Serious Blaze’
St. PETERSBURG, CLEARWATER, FL – Commercial flights at St. Pete Clearwater International Airport were delayed after the plane’s brakes failed while landing Monday afternoon.
A fire in Saint Petersburg said a fencing-engine Cessna plane crashed into a fence at an airport building near Stonybrook Drive and Olmerton North.
Several canceled or delayed flights have been reported, according to an Allegiant Air spokesperson.
Saint Petersburg Fire Rescue responded to the plane, which was a twin-engine Cessna 340 that rolled through the lawn and inside a fence after landing around 2:30 p.m. near Stoneybrook Drive and Ulmerton Road North.
According to airport officials, the pilot was on his way to land when the plane’s brakes failed. The pilot was the only person on the plane who was unharmed.
There were no injuries to the pilot and no signs of fire or serious debris.
However, there was a fuel leak.
The Federal Aviation Administration is at the scene of the accident to conduct an investigation.
The crews clean the fuel.
