Several people were reported to have been shot at a cemetery in Wisconsin on Thursday when gunfire erupted during the funeral of a man killed in a police dispute last week.

The Racine Police Department asked residents to stay away from Graceland Cemetery due to “multiple shots fired” at 2:26 p.m. CST.

The shooting occurred at Graceland Cemetery in Racine, Wisconsin, at about 2:30 p.m. local time as family and friends gathered to mourn Dashuntai L King, according to the Journal Times.

“Several shots were fired at Graceland Cemetery,” Racine Police said in a statement. There are victims but it is not known how many at this time. The scene is still active and is being investigated.”

WTMJ-TV said some of the injured were members of the KIng family.

Witnesses said they heard between 20 and 30 shots fired, according to the report.

The shooting erupted as mourners in Graceland were bidding farewell to Dashuntai Lucas King Sr., a representative of Drager Langendorg Funeral Home and Crematorium said.

The cemetery is located in Racine about 30 miles south of downtown Milwaukee and less than 4 miles west of Lake Michigan.
