“You only live once and I want to be with the person I love.”

Princess Mako said those words in front of the general public at the conference on Tuesday, next to her two lovers after the marriage contract

In October, the two lovers married. Mako also forgoed the usual rituals, turning down a traditional payment of about $1.3 million (£940,000) given to a member of the Imperial family when they left home. Mrs. Mako became the first woman to do so.

Princess Mako is expected to leave with her husband for New York, where he works as a lawyer.

Love story with the princess

The Japanese princess Mako fell in love with her fellow commoner, Kei Kemuro, which cost Mako her royal status

The marriage was expected to take place in 2017, but it was postponed for three years, due to financial problems and some debts.

In 2017, the princess announced her engagement to her colleague in front of the public and said: “He captured her heart with his bright smile like the sun.”
