Plane crashes in Traverse City
NEW YORK – A police officer was shot dead Tuesday night in the Bronx.
The shooting took place around 10:30 p.m. on Bathgate Street and Carmont Parkway in the Claremont section.
A New York City police officer was shot in the arm Tuesday night as he and his public safety partner confronted a suspect near Crotona Park in the Bronx, police said.
James W. Essig, chief of detectives for the New York Police Department, said the man, Ramy Smith, 25, started running, and officers chased after.
The officers followed Mr. Smith to Bathgate Street, where Mr. Smith turned and fired two shots, hitting one of the officers, the chief said.
The officers returned fire, and Mr. Smith was shot in the head.

Police said the officer was shot in the arm.
The suspect was also shot in the head.
The officer was discharged from the hospital at night, but the suspect died of his injuries.
