LOS ANGELES  – A pilot was killed Wednesday in a small plane crash on a bridge near the Foothill Expressway (210) in Sylmar.

The accident was reported around 12:30 p.m., when a twin-engine Cessna 337 Skymaster crashed near Sayre Street, according to Eva Li Ngai of the Federal Aviation Administration.

A fixed-wing aircraft of unknown size and origin crashed on the bridge.

Firefighters responded to the scene and confirmed the death of a person while searching for other potential occupants.

The Federal Aviation Administration stated that the pilot was the only person on board.

The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed about an hour after the accident that firefighters had not identified any other victims when searching the plane, according to the department’s Margaret Stewart.

No information was immediately available on the identity of the injured.

The firefighters soon contained a small fuel leak, and there was no fire resulting from the accident, according to the Lebanese Armed Forces.

California Highway Patrol officials said Westbound 210 Hubbard Onramp Street was closed due to the accident.
