Police said the shooting took place around 1 a.m. Police said they responded to multiple shooting calls in the 10th Avenue area and Hatcher Road, and people fled a shopping mall parking lot when officers arrived.
Several victims were found at and near the scene of the accident.
Phoenix Police Sergeant. Andy Williams told reporters that nine people he described as young people were taken to hospitals after the late-night shooting sent people fleeing.
A woman died after being taken to a local hospital.
Another female, five males and one boy face life-threatening injuries. Police said at least two of the wounded were in critical condition.
To date, nine victims have been identified.
Investigators say the investigation is preliminary, but they say there was a large crowd gathering at a party in a strip mall when an altercation led to a shooting.
Police said the shooting took place inside a nearby car park and road.
No information was immediately available on the injuries of the ninth victim.
Williams said it appeared that a pistol was used after a quarrel broke out among the crowd at what he called “a kind of party”.
“Many shots were fired at this crowd of people as everyone fled the area,” he said.
Williams said no suspects were immediately identified and no arrests were made while authorities collected witness accounts.
The ages of the victims ranged from 17 to 24 years old, according to police.
Officials announced before nine o’clock on Saturday morning the closure of a road near the Gaza Strip complex, while the detectives were treating the area and searching for witnesses and evidence.
