The BBC has appointed Ncuti Gatwa Doctor Who is the 14th. Gatwa will take over the position in 2023, replacing Jodi Whitaker as the current physician.

A doctor who found his next doctor. The BBC has officially announced that Ncuti Gatwa will play the 14th Doctor and succeed as Jodi Whitaker’s replacement when she leaves the series this year.
Gatwa is best known for his role as Eric Effiong in the popular Netflix series Sex Education, which has earned him a slew of awards including a BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actor in Television.
He released a statement acknowledging his new role as the 14th Doctor, which you can read below.
The Scottish actor previously played Eric Eviong in the Netflix comedy series Sex Education, and will also star alongside Margot Robbie in the upcoming Barbie movie.
Gatwa would be the first black man to play a Doctor, a role that has been passed on to various actors since Doctor Who debuted in 1963.
Whitaker made history as the first woman to appear as a doctor when the BBC cast her for the role in 2017.
In keeping with the tradition of the series, Whitaker will appear in a final episode that will introduce Gatwa as the 14th Doctor.
It is expected that this episode will be shown at the end of this year to coincide with the centenary of the founding of the BBC.
