Naomi Judd, the Kentucky-born singer of the Grammy-winning duo The Judds and the mother of Winona and Ashley Judd, has passed away. She was 76 years old.

The two daughters announced their deaths on Saturday in a statement provided by the Associated Press.
“Today we sisters witnessed a tragedy.

“We have lost our beautiful mother to a mental illness,” the statement said. We are dealing with a deep heartbreak and know that just as we loved her, so did her fans. We are in uncharted territory.”

The statement gave no further details.

The Gods were due to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame on Sunday and they just announced a tour of the ring starting in the fall, their first tour together in more than a decade.

They also returned to award shows when they performed at the CMT Music Awards earlier this month.

“I was honored to see ‘Love Can Build a Bridge’ just a few weeks ago,” singer Maren Morris wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

The mother and daughter performers have recorded 14 number one hits in a career spanning nearly three decades.

After their rise to the top of country music, they called it quits in 1991 after doctors diagnosed Naomi Judd with hepatitis.

The Gods’ songs included “Love Can Build a Bridge” in 1990, “Mama He’s Crazy” in 1984, and “Why Not Me” in 1984,

and “Turn It Loose” in 1988, and Girls Night Out in 1985.
