Gaylord, Michigan – Michigan tornado causes “catastrophic” damage At 3:38 p.m. Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service office in Gaylord, Michigan issued a tornado warning for Antrim and Ostego counties.

Just 3 minutes later at 3:41 a.m., the tornado will be observed on the ground and moving toward the city.
A tornado quickly moved through Gaylord in Michigan’s northern lower peninsula, on Friday afternoon, according to Lieutenant Jim Journo of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
Early reports on social media also indicated that many homes and businesses were damaged and that some people might be trapped.
Michigan State Police tweeted: “Trees and power lines block roads. Many homes and businesses damaged.
Avoid Gaylord area. Emergency crews are responding.”

Michigan State Police wrote on Twitter that the injured were taken to hospitals, but there were no immediate reports of deaths.
Earlier, they tweeted: “Trees and power lines block roads. Many homes and businesses damaged.
Avoid Gaylord area. Emergency crews are responding.”

The tornado hit west of downtown near Interstate 75 and moved from east to northeast, said Sean Christensen, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer said her heart is breaking for the people affected by the storm.
About 25,000 people live in Gaylord and Otsego counties, according to the US Census Bureau.
The village is about 235 miles north of Detroit.
