Clarendon Hills, Illinois – A Mitra passenger was killed and four other people were injured after a BNSF train collided with a truck in Clarendon Hills Wednesday morning.
Sometime before 8:30 a.m., a BNSF Inland Railroad train collided with a truck on the tracks in Clarendon Hills, Mitra said.
In addition to one passenger who was killed, two other passengers and two BNSF employees were injured in a crash at the Prospect Street crossing, Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said. All injuries were described as minor.
Mitra said a passenger on the train was killed in the collision. Four other people on the train were slightly injured, including two passengers, a driver and an engineer.
No one was injured in the truck.
The accident caused the truck to overturn and catch fire. The local firefighters’ union said the impact also caused the power lines on top of the truck to catch fire.
“We have all been devastated by this death on Metra Railroad and BNSF and we will be working alongside the NTSB to find out what happened,” Gillis said.
