A bushfire is burning in the Blue Mountain area north of Lyon in Larimer County and the mayor’s office has ordered evacuations in some areas.
The sheriff’s office said evacuations have been ordered in the Vision Way area and County Road 37E.
There are also evacuation orders for residents on Dakota Ridge and Chimney Hollow Road.
A Red Cross evacuation center has been established at Lifebridge Church, 10345 Ute Highway in Longmont.
Because of smoke from the fire, an air quality warning is in effect for the area through Saturday morning, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
Residents are urged to evacuate immediately.
The fire closed Blue Mountain Road at the US 36 junction; And also north of 53rd Street at the 66th Colorado Junction.
The fire sent a large and thick billow of smoke into the evening sky. Some homes in the area were on fire.
Smoke from fire affects local air quality.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has released an Air Quality Health Advisory Report on wildfire smoke.
The National Weather Service has posted a red flag warning of fire danger in the area that is set to expire at 7 p.m. Friday.
The warning triggered low humidity, about 15%, and winds of up to 30 miles per hour.
According to the warning, “any fire that develops will likely spread rapidly.”
“Outdoor burning should be avoided, as well as any activity that may generate a spark and start a fast-moving wildfire.”
