homeless man, serial shooter, man likely saved own life
Placer County – A propane tanker capsized on Interstate 80 in Placer County on Monday afternoon, shutting down traffic in both directions.
KCBS Radio reported that the accident occurred on I-80 heading west east of Applegate in Heather Glen at about 2:15 p.m.
The single-car crash was reported shortly before 2:30 p.m., according to the Auburn District Office of California Highways.
The CHP said the propane tanker capsized and fell on a bridge before coming to rest on wheels along the western runways of the I-80.
The CHP said the highway was closed in both directions due to the possibility of a propane leak. Officers asked the public to avoid the area.
At about 3:45 p.m., Caltrans announced that eastbound traffic at Applegate Road was diverted and westbound traffic on Weimar Cross Road in Colfax.
Caltrans officials said there was no estimated time for the highway to reopen, and advised drivers to use alternate routes.
The accident occurred on an exit ramp in the Heather Glen area, a few miles north of Auburn.
