Melissa Lucio’s execution nears, Concern mounts

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. – The Chippewa Falls Police Department is searching for a missing child Iliana M. Peters.

Chippewa Falls, Whisk. Authorities said a juvenile was arrested Tuesday evening in connection with the death of 10-year-old Eliana “Leila” Peters.

“The suspect was not a stranger,” Chippewa Falls Police Chief Matthew Kelm said during a news conference. “The suspect was known to the victim.”

Kelem added that police did not believe there was “any danger to society at this time”.

Officers executed a search warrant at an address in the building where Lilly went to visit her aunt on Sunday, when she disappeared.

Kelm said. He did not disclose whether the search yielded any valuable evidence. “Evidence was collected, and additional interviews were conducted,” Kelm said.

At about 9 a.m. on Monday, Lilly’s body was found. Chippewa Falls police have identified this case as a murder. They are now looking for her killer.
Her family, friends, and community are trying to address and understand why someone would do this to a 10-year-old. There is no answer but pure evil and a rotten heart.

Iliana M. Peters, 10, who goes by the name Lily, was reported missing Sunday at 9 p.m. by her father.

WEAU states that she is a fourth-grade student at Parkview Primary School.

A mobile driving truck arrived after 10 am in the area where the girl’s bike was found.

Lily’s father said she never came home after visiting her aunt’s house. He was last seen by family members on Sunday evening.

Lily was last seen wearing a purple long-sleeved zip-up shirt with black pants and gray shoes.

K9 teams from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department and Lake Haley Police Department were called to search the area last night.

The Chippewa County Police Department also used a drone to search the woods near the area where it went missing.

Meanwhile, Chippewa Falls police investigators have continued to follow up with family and friends who may have information.

Police drones were searching in the woods near the Leinenkugel brewery area and law enforcement personnel were walking along the Duncan Creek Trail where the bike was found.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Chippewa County Dispatch Center at 715-726-7701 and select option 1.
