Grant County Fire
A massive fire in the Sheridan area has caused a mandatory evacuation of homes near the B-17 Memorial Park on Grant County Road 51, according to a tweet from the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management Sunday.
The largest fire is between Interstate 35 and Interstate 167.
Crews are working near American Legion Veteran Memorial Park with a fire burning on both sides of Grant County Road 51.
Local authorities are battling wildfires near Arkansas 35 North and Grant County Road 51, another tweet said.
Crews are also battling a wildfire near the community of Grapevine near Grant County Road 143.
A third fire is located in the community of Center Grove near Clearwater Lake along Interstate 270.
Latricia Woodruff, the agency’s public information officer, said the Department of Emergency Management remains on standby and ready to assist if anything else is needed.
“The last time I checked they were leaving,” Woodruff said. “[Wood fires] seem to be growing fast because of the wind.”
