EVANSVILLE, Indiana. — Emergency crews responding to apparent house explosion in Evansville, at least one house in the southern Indiana city of Evansville, according to several media reports.

Police and fire officials in Evansville are responding to what appears to be a house explosion at Complex 1000 on North Weinbach Street.

The explosion was reported to emergency dispatchers at 12:58 p.m., and Evansville Police reported two injuries as of 1:50 p.m. The conditions of the patients were not available.

An aerial video posted on social media shows damage scattered in what appears to be a residential neighborhood with several police and fire trucks at the scene.

Police have closed off most streets in the area around the scene of the explosion, and a department spokeswoman said part of Weinbach will likely be closed for several hours.

Police said there was damage to surrounding homes and buildings, but all fires were put out.

Center Point was reporting about 1,000 blackouts in the area of ​​the blast as of 1:50 p.m.

Mike Connelly, chief of the Evansville Fire Department, said the blast radius was 100 feet. There is no word yet on the reason for this.

Knight town trustee Catherine Martin told Courier & Press that the explosion occurred in a house adjacent to her office located at 1116 N. Weinbach Ave.

Martin said she wasn’t there when it happened, as she was returning from a meeting. She confirmed that her staff were fine but that she was “very worried” about the neighbours.

The explosion occurred during nap time for the twelve children at Future Leaders Childcare.

Surprisingly, the explosion only awakened one, “but the building shook, and we looked outside and saw everyone running.” She said she woke everyone up and immediately evacuated the building.
