CASE, South Carolina – One of its officers was killed in the line of duty early Sunday morning during a call to service, Case Police said.
Police spokeswoman Ashley Hunter said Roy Andrew “Drew” Barr was the officer who died.
Hunter said Barr and other officers were responding to an incident that occurred during the night.
Officers confirmed after 7 a.m. that Case BSO Roy Andrew “Drew” Barr had died in the accident.
Police are scheduled to speak about the shooting at around 8:30 a.m. News of the 19th will be covered live when these observations begin.
At about 2:45 a.m., police received a call regarding domestic disturbances, police said.
Officers arrived at the scene and three of them called someone involved in the home accident, according to Hunter. Police said that person opened fire and shot Barr.
“At this time, our city, the Case Police Department, our officers and our community are saddened by the loss of Case B. S. O. Roy Andrew” Drew Barr,” the agency said in a statement.
Information on the Cayce Police website indicates that Barr has been a member of the department’s K-9 team, and has been in a partnership with his current dog since October 2019.
