Brian Houston and his wife Bobbie
Hillsong founder Brian Houston has attacked the church, accusing it of “losing its soul” in an angry social media post claiming the church made his wife, Bobby, redundant.
Houston shared a screenshot on Instagram of a message that read: “Dear Bobby, I wanted to text you to let you know I’ll be emailing you soon regarding your job.”
The message reads “Please let me know if you’d like to talk about this or if you have questions.”
Sender’s name has been deleted.
The photo shows the beginning of Bobbie’s response, which begins: “I don’t even have words to express how cold and cruel all this is.”
Then the image cuts out the rest of the letter.
Brian Houston wrote that his wife received the call making her redundant after “39 years of exemplary service”.
“Are we supposed to act like this is all right? Isn’t it!” He said. “Our beautiful church is losing its soul.”
Bobby Houston’s apparent exit from the church complements the couple’s fall from grace within the evangelical organization, which they founded in the 1980s, and which has grown into a massive global church earning between $80 and $100 million annually.
Last month, 68-year-old Brian Houston stepped down as the church’s chief universal pastor after it was found that he had violated its moral code in his behavior with two women.
The Heilong Church accepted Houston’s resignation, but commended both Brian and Bobby for their loyal service.
