Westminster, Colorado – A house in Westminster, Colorado exploded early Tuesday morning, the Westminster Fire Department said.
The fire department said at 1:47 p.m. crews were responding to 8300 Sheridan Street, and asked residents in Buildings 16, 17, 18 and 19 to evacuate.
The foundation said at least one home was destroyed, and others suffered severe damage. Cars were also damaged during the blast.
The WFD said many homes were evacuated due to the gas leak.
Xcel shut off gas for the area around 5:15 a.m.
Northbound Sheridan Boulevard between Routes 80 and 88 is closed, and the Fire Department is telling people to avoid the area.
A Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) camera in the area showed a plume of smoke rising from the area.
Adams County Fire Rescue and Arvada Fire also responded to the scene.
The fire department said an investigation into the blast would likely take a long time, depending on the extent of the damage.
There were no reports of injuries.
