The fire broke out around 12:30 p.m. at Jojo Discount Outlet Home Line, 3040 W. Lawrence Ave.

Multiple firefighting crews converged on the building as black smoke billowed from the roof, behind the building and outside the front door.

CBS 2’s Kris Habermehl reports that the building had a truss roof that completely collapsed around 1:15 p.m.

Thick smoke was seen pouring out of the building and extending for miles.

Fire officials said customers were inside the store when the fire broke out, but that everyone was able to escape safely before firefighters reached the scene.

The back of the building partially collapsed around 1 p.m.

Lawrence Street between Kedzie and the Chicago River was closed while crews battled the fire from a defensive position.
