A shooting in West Virginia
Nicholas County, Virginia – A shooting in West Virginia killed a Nicholas County lawmaker and a suspected gunman and wounded another lawmaker Friday night, according to state police.
West Virginia State Police said Friday that a shooting in Nicholas County has become fatal, killing a law enforcement officer.
Just before 11 p.m., forces confirmed that the law enforcement officer had died while being transferred to CAMC General in Charleston.
Soldiers said the suspect was also shot dead.
A second suspected shooter is in custody, according to West Virginia State Police.
The incident occurred on Friday night after police arrived at a mobile home to issue an injunction. The suspects began shooting at the officers from inside a house.
Another deputy sheriff was shot and taken to a hospital in Summersville. While police say the deputy was shot in the leg, there are conflicting reports about their health.
There was a heavy police presence at the crime scene after several agencies responded to the shooting.
Earlier in the evening, the Wilderness Fire Department reported that two Nicholas County sheriffs were shot.
At about that time, West Virginia State Police described it as a “very active spectacle.”
The Wildfires Department posted on its Facebook page that the accident occurred on Holcomb Drive in the Birch River region.
The accident was reported before 7:45 p.m.
