Always work on your layups. Layups sometimes wind up being 4 out of every 5 shots in basketball. When you practice, run toward the net, and then get a high jump in so you can smoothly shoot. Running and jumping well in practice means better jump shooting in actual games.

Bounce Pass

Bounce passes are important in the game of basketball. Executed properly, a bounce pass will connect with the receiving player at the waist. Aim for a firm bounce pass that hits the ground around 3/4 of the distance between you and the intended player. At the same time, take into account any other extraneous factors that may affect the pass.

Frequent pass catching practice is important. When you’re practicing, you should drill in being able to catch random throws in addition to passes that are perfect. During a hectic game, every throw is not going to be perfect. Being able to get imperfect passes will limit turnovers.

Don’t spend all your time practicing how to confront a zone defense. Zone play will be important, but man-to-man will pop up from time to time, too. Be sure to practice for this eventuality so you will not become rattled and lose the game.

A good way to practice sound passing is to drill without dribbling. This helps to develop passing skills with your teammates, making it much more difficult if you’re standing in one spot and not dribbling. Do not get frustrated if it it seems difficult at first, over time your team’s passes will become more accurate.

If you want to take jump shots, don’t build your arms up too large. Strong muscles are certainly useful for basketball, but you can overdo it if you plan to play on the perimeter. Overdeveloped muscles could actually interfere with your score percentage.

Play basketball games with yourself during the season and before it. Even though you play on a team, practicing alone can be helpful. That should not matter. There’s still a lot that you can do playing on your own. Work on your pivot moves or practice your free throws. You can always work on something.

To make sure there are no errant passes, use hand signals. Oftentimes frustration occurs when trying you aren’t on the same page with a teammate who cuts to the basketball when you try to pass him the ball. All of this confusion can be remedied through the use of hand signals when a player is opened. Without a signal, there shouldn’t be a pass.

Are you a little more informed now? Do you want to show off your new skills? With hard work and persistence, you can develop your skills to be a good overall player on the court. Then it’s time to put your skills to practice and really reap the rewards of what you’ve learned.
